1.What is nature of the work? (Write a paragraph explaining this) UXO Technicians are personnel who are qualified by Department of Labor, Service Contract Act, and Directory of Occupations for contractor positions of UXO Technician I, UXO Technician II and UXO Technician III. Through a thorough understanding of explosive devices, a UXO Technician will work closely with private companies and local communities to mitigate the threat posed by UXO. 2. What type of education or training do you need in order to work in this occupation? (Explain) Five (5) years recent operational experience as either an Active Duty Military EOD Technician/Specialist or a HDS certified Public Safety Bomb Technician and certified bomb squad member or a certified Federal bomb technician. Recent Active Duty Military EOD Technician/Specialist operational experience is defined as overseas deployments in support of counter-IED operations occurring within the past 10 years. Recent HDS certified Public Safety Bomb Technician and Federal bomb technician operational experience is defined as active, continuous assignment to an accredited bomb squad in a U.S. law enforcement or public safety agency within the past 10 years. Status as a current HDS civilian Army instructor or HDS civilian Army IED fabricator is considered to satisfy the Minimum Experience requirement.
3. What skills or talents do you need in order to be successful in this field? (List a minimum of 3 skills) The identification of all types of military munitions, including fuse types. The movement and/or consolidation of UXO that has been determined safe to move. The preparation of firing systems, both electric and non-electric, for demolition / demilitarization operations. The operation of personnel decontamination stations The proper storage of explosive materials. The performance of field collection procedures to identify contaminated soil. The transportation of demolition materials and/or UXO, for which the risk of movement has been determined acceptable. The reconnaissance and classification of UXO.
4. What courses or activities can you take now to prepare for a future job in this field? I can try to participate in internships and activities around the city of Atlanta. 5. Over the next 10 years what is the job outlook for this field? This job is expected to expand as technology gets better and better 6. Is this a career that interests you? Why or why not? This career interests me greatly and I like what they do for the government and military
